End blind driving!

Drivers always think they’ve got it rough. And it’s true that they have a tough job. But compared to the convenience and comfort features found on 1930s-vintage trucks, they’re driving in unheard of levels of luxury today.

In the 1930s, the driver of a truck was an afterthought at best. Granted, he’d gained somewhat in stature over the preceding two decades. There were no more arguments over whether it made sense from a productivity standpoint to provide them with “luxuries” like windshields and enclosed cabs.

Then again, this 1936 advertisement from a company called Alliance Powr-Pakt doesn’t tout its in-cab, mountable fan as a climate control unit. Nope. It’s all about safety and defrosting front windshields… Which, incidentally tells us a lot about the world of 1930s truck spec’ing: Can you imagine a vehicle being produced today offered without a simple defroster?
